#144/365 The Holy Trinity

Erected right in front of the town's theatre is a memorial named The Holy Trinity. It was erected some years after the the plague of 1739.

Today we've decided to include more than one photo of the subject, to give you a better idea of this memorial.

Another angle of this statue could be seen here.

#139/365 The flat land

Just came back from an overnight stay at my mother-in-law; hence, the extreme late posting. Anyway, I was looking forward to catch scenery similar to the above on the bus ride; strangely, nada..perhaps the season is already over as this was taken last April.

#138/365 Community garden

We don't have a garden; however, next to our building there are plots of vacant land.
In the last several years, few people have taken upon themselves to plant all kinds of flowers on the vacant plots. It really helps to beautify the area. I wish we could contribute, but with my black thumbs, I better not!

#137/365 Széchenyiváros

From the centre, you could see some of the housing estate at Széchenyiváros or Széchenyi Town. A town of 30,000 something people started around 1968.

#136/365 that is blue!

This week has been slow in terms of photo opportunities; however, after digging around in the archive, I hope you don't mind that I give you again one of my favourite subjects : blue sky :)

#134/365 Something handmade

After all the excitement of seeing brides everywhere (see yesterday's post), we arrived at this craft/food fair.

The stand out goods for me are the two Hungarian folk embroidered crafts stalls. If I have somewhere to wear this gorgeous clothes to, I would buy it alas we're not traditional garb people.

One more post on what-we-saw last Saturday tomorrow, before we close the chapter.

#133/365 Waiting to be married

Last Saturday seemed to be a popular date to tie the knot. On our afternoon walk, there were at least 3 couples waiting to be wed :)

#132/365 Go go go

What a busy day it was on Saturday, in terms of the numbers of events held at the town square. We thought of making our way to the puppet show again (read yesterday's post), but we noticed this race going on. Of course, we stopped and cheered a bit. We chose these 3 shots to give you an idea of how some of our streets look like.

After all the cheering and snapping, we made it to the puppet show, the story and style weren't what we're expecting, so we left the show to wonder around. Guess what we saw next?

#Rákóczi út / Rákóczi street

ps. Over here, we celebrated mother's day last Sunday; while my home country is celebrating this Sunday, wish all mothers Happy Mother's day!

#131/365 Story telling

The puppet theatre gave a free performance at the town square yesterday. Judging from the noises in the audience,  I think the children loved it and we adults, too :)

The free shows will continue until Sunday.

#130/365 Europe Day 2013 May 9th

Yesterday marked the 63rd anniversary of Europe Day, also known as the Schuman Day. Overall, it was a low key event, held outside the town's library. There were info. on EU, quizzes, children's activities performances, and the favourite table football.

Although it was a nice event, this day should have been celebrated with more significance; so that more people are aware of the day. Admittedly, we only found out about it by accident!

#129/365 Domes and statues

Unlike other cities, we have no high rise buildings. What we offer is lots of domes and statues for your viewing pleasures. :D The one you see here belongs to the property of The first Piarist friars.

#128/365 Hygieia

Her name is Hygieia (Gyógyítás). She was the daughter of the God of medicine. As a goddess, she represented health, cleanliness and sanitation. So, no surprise that I found her outside the hospital at Izsáki út.

#127/365 From the ground up

I'm just glad that we still have signs of spring despite the hotter than usually weather.

#126/365 Serene

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the local market, I found this serene painting; which I hadn't noticed before. Well, I say let's have more arts in the market!

#122/365 An oldie but a goodie

One of the attractions for me during the May 1st celebration (see yesterday's post) . These tanks are in rather bad shape; hence, I figured that I should capture it for my archive before they change it to something generic.

#121/365 Happy Labour Day

We're running late today because we took part in the Labour day parade. This was how the streets looked like just a few hours ago. Thankfully, the weather is sunny but not too hot, so perfect for outing and I have to say we enjoyed ourselves completely. Can't wait til next year.

I'll be inserting more photos later in the day.
These kids were dancing on and off during the 2km parade

They start young!
some start even younger! she is in traditional  Hungarian garb.

I have to say I was fascinated with this instrument!

There she is again :)

Cars waiting for the parade to cross; so, man on stilt went and tease one of the car's passengers

Too old to hold this; but truth is I wished I'd bought one!

I want that horse!

One of the events on the water to keep people entertained :)

Traditional Hungarian cooking over open fire. This method of cooking is called "Bográcsos"

Men on stilt taking a deserved break.
