Everyone loves a make-over. We're glad to see the reveal of newly renovated former town cinema.
To recap, back in 2013 we wrote about the planned renovation of the former cinema. And here it is all done! It is now known as Kelemen László Kamaraszínház and shall function as culture centre, theatre as well as housing a collection of musical instrument.
Here is a reminder of how it looked like :-
kætʃ.kæ.meɪt Kecske means “goat” ; while mét refers to “district ” in Hungarian. Kecskemét – the capital of Bács-Kiskun County – fusing all the beauty and values of the Great Plain is situated in the middle of Hungary, approximately 85 kms from Budapest.

Every June if you're in Hungary, please look out for Night of Museums events around the country. On one June's Saturday, you have access to some of the museums, big and small, around the country for free.
For us, we make sure each year we select one museum which we haven't been and if we still have extra time, we include other activities which was offered to the public.

#177/365 Courtyard at Cifra Palota
We end the tour at the courtyard of Cifra Palota, my favourite spot of the whole building. See you again next year!

#175/365 Peacock on the ceiling of Cifra Palota
From the contemporary exhibit yesterday, we go up one floor to this grand room. In case you missed our earlier post about this place, this building was formerly an apartment block.
This is my second time inside Cifra Palota, both times on "long night of museums" night. The first time, it was all about the artifacts on exhibit. So, for this visit I concentrated more on the building.

#174/365 Browsing the gallery in Cifra Palota

| hard to photograph in low lights but you get the idea |
One thing I noticed yesterday was that lots of parents brought their young ones to the long night of museums. Impressively, lots of them genuinely seemed interested in the exhibition!

#173/365 At the Cifra Palota for the long night of museums
Staff at the Cifra Palota museum was very kind to provide drinking water to the visitors. It was scorching outside!

#67/365 Puzzled
Reading the town's coffee table book and online info., the Katona József Múzeum (est 1894) is as if still in operation. However, I took a walk there one day and found the museum in state of disarray. See it for yourself in the picture below
To say the national flag in the picture is dusty is an understatement! What a pity to see this gorgeous building in such a state. Hopefully the mayor's office will act fast before it really become an eyesore; especially that it is located right next to the main bus and rail station.

#20/365 Naïve Museum
Don't be turn off by the shabby appearance of the Naïve Museum. In fact, I hope the museum's admin.don't refurbish too much when the time comes as to loose its charms.
Inside this moderate size building, you will find the largest naïve arts collection of Hungary. Whenever I visit, I find myself completely enjoy the seeming naïve arts, some even done by noted Hungarian naïve artists.
We planned to revisit this summer and wish you'd do the same :)
ps. I mentioned this museum before in this post.

Múzeumok Éjszakája 2012 ( Night of the Museums )
This year's first stop for us was The neolog Synagogue (1871) but currently functions as House of science and technology. You can also find copies of Michelangelo's fifteen statues here
On our way to the next destination, we heard the choir from The Evangelic Church, so we paused a bit to listen to the beautiful concert.
Next destination was The Greek Orthodox church (1824 & 1829). Kecskemét used to be the Greek metropolis of the Danube-Tisza region. At the end of the 17th century Greek merchants settled in the town and they built this church between 1824 and 1829.
Look at those wood carvings!
Q&A at the Greek Orthodox Church. The atmosphere was very informal :)
Seating in the Greek Orthodox church is different from most churches that it is not set in rows but instead around the walls of the church. Visitors listening to the guardian of church.
Last stop, and also my favourites of all, The Museum of Hungarian Naive Artists (1976). This place housed the largest collection of naive fine arts in Hungary. Mainly parents like to bring their children here.
Aside from the usual artifacts, Artist www.guido-vedovato.it is exhibiting his work in one of the galleries until August 2012. His work is just fascinatingly vibrant!
Obviously, there are many more museums in Kecskemét but we chose only 3 this time. We figured that this is an annual event that we'll visit others in the coming years. So, stay tune :)
